Hi! I’m Caroline, the soul behind The Whole Mess. Born in Virginia, I’ve wandered the States over the years with stints in New Jersey, Tennessee, and, most recently, Hawaii. The local penchants for bagels (New Jersey), sweet tea + potato wedges (Tennessee) and pitaya bowls topped with mangoes (Hawaii) have all heavily influenced my palate resulting in a quirky love of wholesome comfort food that I try to convey with each bite.
As a vegetarian/vegan for 10 years, I focus heavily on plant-based, whole food recipes because those ingredients are what make my body feel the most vibrant and alive. That being said, I believe each body is different and each season in your body is different. What worked for you last year may not work for you this year, what works for me this year may never work for you. Listening to your body and intuiting what it is craving for nourishment is the biggest factor in living a holistic lifestyle. That’s what The Whole Mess is about. The recipes I share here are all largely plant-based and whole food-centric. But, being a human is messy. Navigating the ups and downs of our food system is messy. Listening to your body takes practice and can often feel messy. Through cultivating The Whole Mess, my goal is to foster an inclusive, safe space where anyone can come to partake and be nourished.
A few things that nourish my soul are: frothy cups of chai, freshly cut eucalyptus in bud vases all over my house, my husband, the warm, salty ocean air, cool, crisp gin and tonics (heavy on the lime), coconut water, rescue dogs, lilikoi, long hikes in the Blue Ridge that leave you bone-tired, open air living, avocados, running on country roads in the fall, bourbon + chai rooibos in the winter, epic, sweeping novels and lavender sea salt baths.
When I’m not crafting recipes in my creaky old farmhouse I work as an event and marketing manager for a local winery. I love collaborating and am available for sponsored posts. Please send me an email to connect or just say hey 😉
